The Ottoman Empire in the Middle of the 14th Century

The ottomans would see this as a great opportunity to claim some territory on the european side of the dardanels as their own. The byzantine themselves had absolutely no ability to expand beyond constantinople now, and had to settle for a diplomatic relationship with the ottoman empire. Constantinople could have fallen much earlier if it weren't for bigger problems in south east Europe. In 14 22, the siege of the city may have been successful, with the otto s possessing cannons that may be useful in breaching the walls. It would once again, be internal conflict within the ottomon empire that prevented the siege from continuing. And so the siege was lifted
