The Importance of the US Civil War in Your Story

The Civil War is so critical in the story because that is the moment when slavery in the empire of cotton now pretty decisively comes to an end. So this transition from slave labor to other forms of labor mobilization in the cotton industry is it can be dated pretty precisely to 1865 and you can see kind of a fundamental shift in global global capitalism at this particular time. And what my book is trying to do is not to think about the essence of capitalism or to think of capitalism in a kind of completely abstract way but to think about capitalism historically.
