The Future of Energy Efficiency
I think there are some areas of tech where the scale for big improvements, you know, is not as large as others. For example, in 10 years time we won't be able to build a bridge for 20% of what we can right now. That's because concrete and steel and energy will always cost so much more than it does today. So I got very, got very interested years ago in desalination technology. It basically involves pushing seawater through a membrane with very small holes in it that essentially keep the salt molecules out. The operation of those ROsmosis systems keeps improving but still need less power.
