Shakespeare's Process of Writing Shakespearean Plays
Shakespeare knew exactly who he was writing these plays for, and therefore what the skill sets are of the individuals within it. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, we know we've got two women, Helena and Hermia, and they have physical traits as well. So you have this sense that part of the process is writing quite literally for the actors that are in front of him. He wasn't very good at standing in front of the audience, delivering monologues and drawing them into those moments.
