Sallust wrote history after the murder of caesar in forty four. His works seem to be published in the late forties. He sort of talks about that as a way of doing work for rome, because he can't be a politician any more. But i think that anyone who reads between the lines sees a very gruntled politician who feels that he's been stymed by enemies.
