Is It a Good Idea to Design a Set?
I think you have to understand composition, whether you're an art director, a production designer, or cinematographer. But I think it's one thing looking at a location and another thing figuring out how that location is actually going to look on film. It's interesting because sometimes you can work with production designers that it's all about the set, but not about the frame. The whole thing is everybody does their own thing, but when it comes together, that's what's important.
