The Importance of History in the European Union

In performing as a president he himself was applying history. Do you think the Europeans including the United Kingdom who see themselves as the cradle of Western civilization certainly, how are they doing applying history today? The British I think are doing a really important job here. There is a fundamental tension at the heart of the European Union in the sense that it is an attempt to transcend or even defy history in some ways.
