A dutch explorer by the name of jacob rogivineto island. The oral history says that there's ha story of a clan pushing down a moai in the night, but refers to earth shaking. There's this thought that it was either this political calamity that led to like a war, or that it might have been an earthquake that knocked them all over. As an american, you would know that the pacific coast gets hit with earthquakes quite a bit. So pacific is very sismically active.
