The Disabled Child

The book the disabled child is about stories parents tell about raising children with disabilities, and it's based on reading very many memoirs written by almost entirely able bodied parents about raising a kid with disabilities. One of the central ideas in the book is to sort of think about the narrative of childhood development that we in the US have. And I emphasize the twin or entwined relational ideas of childhood as dependency and adulthood as independence. Also in the book, I'm engaging with neoliberalism neoliberalism as a rationality both to think about our compulsion to tell stories about our lives, and also about this idea of like a future that has improved upon the present.
