The Concussion Theory of Rainfall
The idea was that if you caused concussions in the atmosphere, it will shake up the moisture in the sky and cause it to rain. This was based on an observation of a connection between warfare and rainfall. It received a particular boost after the late unpleasantness or American Civil War. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers were convinced by first-hand experience in mud and slush that gunfire inevitably brought down torrents of rain.
