The Origins of Minimalism in Christianity

The Stoics had a sense that material goods shouldn't be how you define your life. Francis of Assisi was alive in the 12th century into the 13th and his whole practice of religion was to suffer as much as possible. To suffer and to go without is to be closer to God, which is quite minimalist.
