Castellio's on Heretics

Frida Ghitis: In 1554, Castellio wrote a polemic against the persecution of heretics. She says he argued that it was wrong to persecute them violently because they taught the truth. He argues for genuine toleration and not physical force in response to missteps. Ghitis: The only reason most people even know the name of Cervatus was that Calvin had him put to death.
