In the book of deuteronomy, god appeals to their sense of identity and uniqueness. Keeping the commandments will bring you promised blessings more than you could possibly imagine. And if not, keeping the commandments will protect you from cursing and consequence. There's both carrot and stick mingled in one. I'm moved by deuteronomy. It really is clear that a loving father wants to come as close to us as we are willing.
