Kindred - The E's
I wrote Kindred to make people I hoped feel history as opposed merely to knowing facts of history. She knew that there were things that you'd had to do to compromise, but as long as you survived, that there was something to be gained from surviving for future generations. It seemed important to me to get that kind of emotion, the extra feeling, the awareness of what it might have been like to be a slave.
