Gardens aren't the truth of nature they're kind of very very controlled visions of what we want to implement upon the earth. We don't consider what she wants herself and so it's kind of been a slow process for me. I wrote this book called the Garden Awakening about permaculture concepts of food for us and allowing the land to become what it wants to become. It was like raising somebody else's children for them and when you walk away the relationship isn't there, he says.
