How You Melt Theory and the Empirical Data That You Have Together So Beautifully
In the first chapter of your book, you follow the trajectories of subaltern studies and postcolonial theory to show both where they've taken us so far in understanding modernity. In particular, you show how communist universes, Virginiaologies, investor in Europe interacted with the very local cultural economic particularities of Kerala since the 1930s. Could you take us through this dialectic that you trace between the universal and the particular in the making of new communist, what you call national popular imaginaries Kerala? And as we're going to get into it in the next couple of questions, how do you melt theory and empirical data together so beautifully?
