How Can Nonprofits Pay More?
A 2014 study by 3rd section New England found that almost half of nonprofit employees in New England, 43%, were making less than $28,000 a year. The Humane Society of Manatee County in Florida has already started to attempt this approach, offering compensation packages that are reasonably competitive with for-profit business. Unionizing would allow these employees a chance to be heard and make their voices heard. Yet despite this movement to unionize nonprofits having started in 1995, many still seem hesitant.
