Aviation's Approach to Accidents and Near Misses Is Really Good
I've had him in teaching human factors to doctors with no background other than aviation. And I've been in with him with the simulator in Qantas looking at and talking about human factors with Qantas pilots. Same concepts, authority gradient and communication, decision making. Aviation's approach to accidents and near misses is really good. They'll take every near miss an accident and look at all the contributing factors. Medicine won't do that. We call this a narrative fallacy. Humans like a simple story and we almost prefer a story where someone's a fault.
