History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps

CHAPTER

The History of Scotland by George Buchanan

Buchanan was among those who helped build a case for deposing Mary Stewart from the Scottish throne. He first flirted with Protestantism, then became a Catholic priest and then finally joined the Reform cause for good. Buchanan's history of Scotland claims that the monarchy in this nation was always elective. We read there, the authority of Scottish kings derived from the law. So again, it seems fair to speak of a separate and distinctive Scottish Reformation.
