Is the Church in a Period of Reformation?

In 15 forty two a lot of reforms came through. Was one of the reasons why the church was trying to make those reforms, was dealing with a lot of inner turmoil. What was kind of the catalist behind a lot of these changes? I suspect that certainly it was complicated. It's easy to be very cynical in any age, but you know, people do have consciences and they can be awakened.
