Introduction

Shohini Chatterjee is a PhD candidate and Vaniya scholar in the department of gender, sexuality and women's studies at Western University. Today we'll be in conversation with Dr. Shannon Philip about her new book Becoming Young Men in a new India masculine ideas, gender relations and violence in the post colony. Being a man comes with a lot of privileges and power but can also produce anxieties and vulnerabilities for men themselves. So it was really this fluidity between both the power that men have in Indian society, but then these expectations and obligations they have to perform to that led me to this project.
