The Bridge to China

CHAPTER

The Problem With Aid to Developing Countries

I read a lot of different books, maybe 20, just about aid given to developing countries. It usually is most often used for as putting a band-aid on things. What we need are governmental organizations and structures that facilitate making sure that all people's food needs are met. And in a way, aid compounds the difficulty. It does not solve the problem. You're giving a person a fish instead of teaching them to fish. Think about the fate of these smaller farmers because these food might be given out for free or I don't know, like charge at a lesser than market price. basically you've destroyed the local food production economy.
