Magisteria: The Entangled History of Science and Religion

I think the critical thing about that question is it's not a single question. And any answer that considers itself to be sufficient and authoritative is invariably going to be limiting. The key to answering it is interdisciplinarity and looking at the complexity of the human being. Where does that idea that religion and science have always been in conflict come from? It really dates from the end of the 19th century. This was a period in which science had been professionalised, which often meant turning the clerical naturalists who had as it were held the baby of science over the previous 200 years out of the laboratoryAt exactly the same time.
