Lord of the Rings - The Tone of a Book

The tone of Lord of the Rings, about Frodo and others, is number one, very serious. It's fairly heavy, heavy emotionally, right? Kind of. There are a few points that are funny, a little minor humor, usually with Mary and Pippin. But overall, it's quite a serious book or series of books, trilogy.
