The Togliati Car Factory and Why It's Important
The Togliati car plant, I think, was probably the biggest car plant in the whole world. It was the shining example of the Soviet plan that they would build cars for everyone and they would be cheap. By the end of the 80s,. this was before the, as communism began to collapse, what happened was the managers who ran Togliatis knew that the whole system wasn't working. No one had any idea of any alternative. They started to sell off the cars privately and they found a man called Boris Berezhovsky - he helped set up a system to industrialised the looting.
