Maxwell is writing something which has come to be known as, it seems to me, auto-fiction. It's this thing where you use memoir and you change what you want to try and reach a greater truth. But I do like the way that he said that New York is one of the very few cities where you can't look at it without crying. And it's okay. He reminds me actually there's a more recent novel that was published a couple of years ago called All My Punis Sorrows by Miriam Taves,.
