The Amazon rainforest is sometimes called the lungs of the earth for its ability to absorb massive amounts of CO2 and produce oxygen. The jungle is changing as people increasingly view the Amazon as a resource for things like wood and gold. Although the world has many more problems, this is the last we'll aim to solve for now.
