The Division Between Philosophy of Film and Film Critique
In a movie Blade Runner, I argue the Voigt camp machine to try to distinguish replicants from genuine human beings is a figure for the movie camera. My thought is that all of this argumentation at a more abstract level about the nature of the medium has to be grounded in an accurate convincing value to the count of specific instances of film. So unless I can convince you that this general reading of Blade Runner is a good one, a good interpretation, then I'm not going to be able to get anywhere with respect to the further much more controversial claim,. namely that film is capable of reflecting in a quasi philosophical way about its own conditions of possibility.
