Shakespeare's Exploration of Skepticism in Othello
In Othello, the titular character is tricked by his supposed friend into suspecting his beloved desdemona of having an affair. Like Shylock, Iago is driven by an all-too-human malevolence, not by reasoned beliefs based on solid evidence. It's actually emphasized in the play that Othello is not a particularly jealous man. His weakness is rather his insecurity about whether desdemona could love one such as him.
