The Rise and Fall of Francis Crawley
Crawley was arrested several times during these years for the theft of cars. Each time he went in front of a judge in the Bronx County court, he walked away free. He also liked to pick up girls and impress them with driving them around in these stolen vehicles. In December 1930, he was tried and convicted. Judge Harry Stockwell issued a suspended sentence and placed Crawley on probation. The judges thought they didn't have to sentence people in jail. They would take care of it for him.
