The Secularization of Art

In Western civilization, the process of getting civilized is a process of secularization. It starts in a sense with the secularization of art, of aesthetics, taking religion out of it. And then this secularization of science, science is completely put aside. Science connects to reality versus religion connected to revelation in ancient books. In every realm, so in every dimension, science contradicts religion. That's why they fought it. Then they give up because they couldn't keep up. But even when they do something that is religious, like the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo, the figures are so secular, so powerful, so individuated.
