The brighton bombing happened very much on british soil, and was, as we heard, an attack on the heart of the british government. At that time, margaret thatcher was a hit figure for republicans. And it was seen by people as a response to her refusal to give in to the demands of republican prisoners who wanted to be treated as political prisoners rather than criminals. Subsequently, ten of those prisoners died. It was all a reminder, i think, that the i ray was far from being defeated.
