Hiring First Time Data Scientists
First time data scientists should look for places in mid to larger companies, not smaller start ups. Junior people need a lot more support from their employers than senior hires. If you are en, if you're looking for that first job, i would finitely look at places in midto larger companies and not in smaller, smaller, scrappier start ups.
