The Everlasting Mercy
I think Macefield is reaching out for that sort of male company. He wants to be amongst his own if you like. A trick is a period of work or duty. I used to get it with the gymnasium. Some men need a long sea voyage to get that level of fear together. Okay so that is sea fever. It kind of got me into Macefield generally but then I started reading some of his longer poems and he writes long narrative poems. Stories with a kind of a moral to them like what people used to enjoy. And I just want to rattle off a couple because when you read them you feel like this is a guy who's desperate to tell the story
