Jail is a place for people awaiting trial or for minor crimes. Prison is where convicted criminals, right, or serious crimes got it. School is ever homily said school is a long term prison, right. The big house is used as an idiom. It means prison. He was sent to the big house means he was sent to prison. That's a kind of an old idiom. I've seen it in old movies.
