The partisan lines upon which this conflict maps in the US is sort of the exact opposite of what it might have looked like a decade ago. There has generally been right wing hesitancy skepticism, even pro-Putin kind of rhetoric coming from certain portions of the right during this war. If you extend that to the Republican Party, Republicans comfort zone is in being hostile to conflicts abroad and American commitments abroad. The loudest voices on the right do not think America's presence should be on the world stage; they're technocratically minded.
