The Importance of a Moral Center
When any institution begins to look like it's shaking in the wind, two emotions arise: anxiety and passivity. Even people who know that they're doing well right now are also afraid that maybe tomorrow, the next shoe is going to drop. So what you get over here is the passivity that comes out of anxiety unexpressed. And that passivity leads to the silence that we're seeing now. We have partisanship tearing us apart and embedded in our national framework.
