The Ethical Importance of the Future

I'm amazed at how little time I spend really thinking about the world that my children will inhabit when they're my age. And yet we know that if we can just influence the trajectory of our progress by 1% a year, you know, 50 years from now will be totally different than if we degrade it by 1%. That is the problem. Most people do really care about the life charge of their children, grandchildren who may be alive at the end of a century. It's not felt as a moral imperative in the way that responding to near term challenges is. We need to try and plan to avoid something which we need to avoid now.
