In 1999 AMD introduced the first x86 processor with a one gigahertz clock speed. While AMD was only a year younger than Intel, it was this move in 1999 that really signaled that AMD was a worthy competitor to the industry giant. But 99 showed that AMD was here for real Z's. It meant business.
