The History of the Police
Cultural unconscious says police is there to deal with anything that seems to be disorderly. Police mandate was enormous: crime control, but also bridge-building and street lighting. This wide remit is precisely why policing at the time was understood as a form of political economy. Without police science, we wouldn't have capitalism or state's ability to manage capitalism.
