How to Find a User Researcher?

Most teams and most start ups don't have a user researcher. So it usually falls down to the designer to do that. I think grouping us o research with design so closely means that often, unless the designer has sway in the company, the designer may be brought on too late to make impact through research. There are loads of resources out there for people to to develop some of these skills. The mine set that you need is part detective, so you want to look at all the information there without trying to influence it. You also sort of need to be a therapist.
