In this chapter, I wanted to take seriously all of the ways in which family members are part of the care for traumatic injury. But because it is a hospital ward where patients are in critical condition,. Family members aren't always allowed in. There are concerns about secondary infection for patients who are on ventilators so you need to restrict the number of breathers in the room. And there are all kinds of things that happen to patients both kind of before during and after surgerywhere the presence of family members may be deemed to help or hindrance.
