The Rise of the Middle Class in the African Context
Some of the most successful creatives on the African continent are no longer centering international audiences or a Western gaze. I think they have kind of given themselves permission to be interested in their cultures and their communities. That actually has made their work maybe more authentic, more bold, more interesting to everyone. And that does say something about the promise and the hope that people feel for the art seen in their countries.
