Introduction

Exploring the co-opting of ideas from economists on both sides of the Iron Curtain and the influence of market socialist experiments in Yugoslavia and Hungary, this chapter introduces the book 'Markets in the Name of Socialism, The Left-Wing Roots of Neoliberalism' by Joanna Bachmann. The author's unique perspective of studying Marxism in the East Block and conversing with free-market economists is also highlighted.
