i was in the physics department at yale, and then i left that to become chair of a much, a smaller department in some senese at case western reserve. And it turned out i was a very good recruiter. I love recruiting. It's really fun to find great people and lure them to your operation. The first year, i hired ten people who didn't have tenure; we built a very, very good department,. But we ad also hired a guy named jim axe, who was, i don't know if you remember that name? Yes, he had won the coal prize, and he was an algebraist.
