i am a strong believer that your mind works a lot without your realizing what it's doing. i will very often get to page 250 of a novel i'm writing, and something that i wrote on page 13 that was very casual, and i didn't really know why i put it there. When i look at three things about elsie, which was my second novel, it begins with a woman, an old, elderly woman, who's fallen in her flat. And she's lying there, waiting for some one to notice she's missing from her life. And nobody comes, nobody realizes. So i think these these ideas, where jesus on a drain pipe, came from,
