The second world war set us on the best path, because it made us understand that we are all trapped on this very tiny, little planet. We spent the immediate post war period setting up international organizations like nato and european union. But there was a forward thinking, enlightened part of that generation who led america through the second world war. The only way to avoid a third world war is if we all worked together. And as you and i both know, as history buffs, the very first test of that was the korean war.
