Even in new gingwich's era, despite his firebrand approach and his upsetting of the internal workings of the house, wih, which bob michael and jim wright both lamented. What we have now is complete and utter control of the body policy, the body of the policy work that needs to be done wiped out by the politics. You can't even hint that you want to have a conversation. There are far fewer americans who identify as liberal than identify as conservatives. The idealogues don't have as much of a foothold.
