According to TMZ, that quote was actually the breaking point in their relationship. Reportedly, Taylor was really hurt that Calvin went so far to lie about her involvement on national radio and felt that he had taken their agreement of anonymity or secrecy too far. The thing about this story is if I'm going to hazard a guess, Taylor Swift was copying a bit of heat in the public eye, particularly around her relationship with Tom Hiddleston. If her team are having to come out and say there was no cheating involved, they're obviously self-conscious about the fact that it appears like there was cheating involved.
