Face id with a mask is disabled by default, but apple now gives you the option to use it. The trade off is youre giving up some security, because face idea is no longer scanning for the whole face,. It's just looking for the unique features around the eye area of your face. You cannot use face ide with a mask with sun glasses on. And you cannot cover the ee ara with like hats or visors.
